Are Optometrists Happier?
Recently, I was browsing the web and found that optometrists rank their career very highly in terms of job satisfaction. This is not surprising, considering that this career is in demand (think of all the boomers with bad eyesight, not to mention the rest of us whose eyes are glued to monitors all day) and optometrists are able to cure most vision problems with relative ease and little pain, hence a high satisfaction rate for patients. Additionally, there is potential for high income with REASONABLE HOURS! To learn more, check out Careers Internet. Also, in a recent U.S. News and World Report article, Optometry was cited as one of the "7 Greatest Careers for 2007."
I'm currently an opto student at the UCB School of Optometry and I'm loving it! Optometry is definitely a rewarding, exciting, and fun career, but like all other health & medical professions, you have to really want to do it (i.e. you have to like eyes and people and helping people with their eyes all day), and have good interpersonal skills. Otherwise, you will hate your job, and will not be successful. But if you truly have a passion for vision-related health care, you should definitely consider applying to UCBSO. I've learned a lot here, and had a fun time doing it. Even as I'm studying for finals this week, I don't regret any of the hard work (and there was a lot!) it took to get here. Go BEARS!
